YHWH OVINE MACHINE

3D / ART DIRECTION

A vending machine for lambs, fixed to a street pillar.

Such capsule machines stand outside every supermarket. Only one thing has changed: instead of toys, this one sells lambs. White ones, and one black. Behind the joke is a very old symbol —

the flock, obedience, sacrifice — packed in plastic and sold for

a coin.

The installation: machine, pegboard, basket. A fixed point in the street.

02 / The machine

Capsules in rotation. Video loop.

Inside the machine, a tight cluster of spheres rubs against each other, like a flock. A sheep needs to feel another body beside it; separated, it panics. In the machine, this law of nature works flawlessly — until someone drops a coin.

Lighting study.

03 / Capsules

Sheep to go. One cup reads “No milk”: the black one.

From form to symbol. The sheep as wealth and resource. As dependence. As the impossibility of being alone. Lamb and sacrifice, docile and sweet, counted at bedtime, white and black, the one that strays from the flock.

04 / The lamb

Ref. — Jan and Hubert van Eyck, Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, Ghent Altarpiece, 1432 (detail).

In Christianity, the Lamb of God isn’t postcard sweetness but a sacrifice. In ancient sacrificial rituals, a ram could become an offering to the gods.

One always pays for all.

YHWH — the tetragrammaton, four Hebrew consonants (yod, he, vav, he) that name God in the Hebrew Bible.

YHWH Ovine Machine is a universal dispenser of lambs. Standard set: capsules with white sheep, plus a bonus container with a black one, the obligatory member of any flock. After “use”, only the wool remains — everything a sheep has to give. Not counting the sacred sacrifice, of course.

05 / Yes sir

Obedience is the core algorithm. Don’t resist, don’t object, don’t stray. Ask HAVE YOU ANY WOOL? and the answer is always the same: YES SIR, YES SIR! Even the black sheep doesn’t argue — it gives. So here you are: crates filled to the brim with wool.

Three bags full. And then some.

The bonus container: one black sheep.

YHWH Ovine Machine. Unique identifier: #000BLACK. What’s left is wool.
