I WANT TO BE RICH

MIXED MEDIA / MOTION

Embossing on aluminium foil — originally a disposable food tray.

This poster is about wanting to break free from a world without working social mobility, where climbing up from the bottom is extremely hard.

It is embossed on foil from a disposable food tray, a symbol of poverty. Yet despite this material background, the embossed shapes reveal the attributes of wealth: tennis, money, a diamond tennis bracelet.

I want to be rich !!!, 2025. Digital poster, 70 × 100 cm.

In the corners: classic Monopoly figurines in the shape of sheep. Monopoly is a game of chance and wealth, but to take part, you have to pay a price. The sheep becomes the sacrificial lamb.

02 / What I had

What I had: coins, beads, chains, a hole punch, a tiny tennis racket.

And a lot of patience. Embossing by hand.

Before: a foil food tray.

What I had: a foil food tray. And a lot of patience.

The tray is disposable, a symbol of poverty. Opened out and pressed by hand, it fills with tennis rackets, coins and bracelets.

After: the tray, embossed.

03 / Close up

Tennis.

“I want to be rich !!!” Direct, almost childlike, but also desperate.

Money, pressed into the ribbed wall. Punched holes along the rim.

Nothing is hidden: ribbed walls, folded rims, the creases of cheap foil. The wealth exists only as an imprint.

04 / The surface

The top of the poster: the tray’s walls, cut and fanned out around the centre.

05 / Variations

Test version: a photograph at the centre.

Lower corner: a Monopoly sheep beside the tray’s cut fringe.

In a test version, the centre held a photograph instead of the slogan: a child with a tennis racket.

It captures both a dream and a critique: the tension between aspiration and the harsh reality of blocked opportunities.
