COLLAGE
Nine collages, one for each circle of Hell.
Dante’s Inferno goes down through nine circles, each a different way of going wrong. These nine collages give every circle its own disc, cut up from cartoons, packaging, price tags and hand-drawn lettering.
Each circle gets its own kind of mess.
The nine circles
I — Limbo. Virtuous pagans and the unbaptised: no pain, only longing.
II — Lust. The lovers, blown about by a restless storm.
III — Gluttony. Cold rain and mud, guarded by Cerberus.
IV — Greed. Hoarders and spendthrifts, pushing heavy weights.
V — Wrath. The angry fight in the swamp of the Styx.
VI — Heresy. Heretics in burning tombs.
VII — Violence. Against others, oneself and God: blood, thorns, burning sand.
VIII — Fraud. Ten ditches for the deceivers, from seducers to false counsellors.
IX — Treachery. A frozen lake, with the betrayers locked in ice.
From collage to object
Some of the discs were also tested as 3D objects: a collage under glass in a steel ring, with loose beads. That larger project remains unfinished.
